When is it time to call an Electrician?

Whenever you have an electrical problem. It's of no inconvenience to us to provide the reassurance you need. Besides, more often than not more frequently tripping circuit breakers, flickering lights, faulty wiring, etc., warrant our immediate attention.

How do I know what size Electrical Service System I need for my property?

Can I do Electrical work on my own?

With Electric, this can and often times is dangerous, ranging from fire hazard to death. Doing it yourself, you're also liable for damages and injuries. What is a Surge Protector, and do I need one?

A surge protector is a piece of equipment that suppresses the excess voltage in your system to prevent it from causing harm to your appliances and devices. We definitely recommend getting some to protect your appliances and devices from power surges.

What should I do if my Breaker Panel is hot?

You should call us and have the issue determined sooner than later. This typically represents an influx of energy consumption present and your service may not be equipped to handle this. Which can result from older services needing to be upgraded, loose connections inside the panel, etc. This can be a serious problem and you should have someone who knows what they're doing check it out for you.

Do you install Ubiquiti UniFi networking equipment?

Yes, First Choice Electric specializes in professional Ubiquiti UniFi network installations for homes and businesses. We install UniFi switches, access points, security cameras (UniFi Protect), and door access control systems (UniFi Access). Our electricians are experienced with structured cabling, rack installations, and complete network infrastructure deployment.

Do you install security cameras?

First Choice Electric began with a simple belief: every family deserves to feel safe in their home. Howard "Butch" Kirkpatrick II (1951-2024), a Navy veteran who became a Master Electrician in the 1970s, founded Kirk's Electric in 1992. In 2010, he and his brother Bennie restructured the business as First Choice Electric, bringing decades of expertise to St. Charles County.

Butch's father, Howard Sr., never worked as an electrician - but his legacy of hard work, integrity, and service to others became the foundation for everything we do. Growing up in a St. Louis orphanage, then serving in WWII, Howard Sr. showed the family what perseverance looks like.

What started as two brothers with a shared work ethic has grown into a three-generation family business. Today, Zach Burris (CEO) and Sam Burris (Master Electrician) lead daily operations, with Sam earning his Master Electrician certification in 2024. The newest team member, Brody Dunsworth, continues the tradition of excellence that Butch established.

Howard Kirkpatrick Sr. is born. He would grow up in a St. Louis orphanage until age 11, when he was taken in by Earl Nolan.
